Surfing Videos
While Hollywood took their stab at surfing videos with Gidget and Blue Crush, nothing can touch the true surf videos like The Endless Summer and Stranger than fiction.
Surf videos have been around since the invention of videocameras and especially waterproof cameras that you see all over the surfing world. The most well known , non Hollywood, surfing movie of all time is definitely The Endless Summer.
Regarded by some as the purest, most original surfing video, The Endless Summer chronicles a few young surfer’s travels around the world to find the perfect wave. Bruce Brown’s timeless classic featured now shaper, Robert August and Mike Hynson.
While I bash Hollywood Blue Crush can be a good movie if you want to try to get your girlfriend stoked on surfing. It is also a great date night movie as there is a little love to it but it’s not one of those overly gay chick flicks.
But back to the real stuff, Surf videos these days can be found everywhere. From youtube to surfline to your local shop, you are sure to find whatever you are looking for.
One of my favorite surf producers is Jack Johnson. Yes, the same Jack Johnson that you love to listen to started out his career producing surf movies like Thicker than Water. He would dub his music in the background while creating some of the most visually stunning surfing videos yet to be seen.
Now a day, you can even download free surf videos on Surfline occasionally. They will post new surf videos from all the top brands for a limited window for you to download. While the quality is not always as great as the purchased videos they are still worth the time.
They also produce surf movies for all kinds of surfing. Even to the little known tanker surfing and surfing on the great lakes like in Step Into Liquid. This is definitely one of my favorite surfing movies up there with The Endless Summer. Step Into Liquid showcases all kinds of surfing and truly captures the pure beauty and essence of our sport.
I will post links to more info and places to purchase these great surf videos shortly. Hope you enjoy them and catch the stoke, forget Hollywood.
