Surfing Literature: From mags to books

Surfing Literature will give you everything you need to get the most up to date recent information in the surfing industry or competition. Magazines are going to be your best bet for the most recent happenings but books have their value for the how to and the bios.

The most popular surfing magazines are definitely going to be Transworld Surfing, Surfing, and Surfer. Transworld is going to focus on the younger, hip generation while Surfing and Surfer are going to address all audiences pretty equally.

I think with a good mix of all 3 you got a good grasp on what’s happening in the surf world. There are also some specialty mags out there for longboarding and other hot topics as the top magazines normally focus on just shortboarding progression.

There are also some pretty good surfing books out on the market today including Kelly Slaters Bio, Pipe Dreams, and the Encyclopedia of Surfing. I own both and love utilizing the Encyclopedia to get rare facts and tidbits to throw on this site to give it a little extra meat.

Any local Barnes & Noble or bookstore should definitely have any of these titles for you. For some of the specialty magazines you may have to go to your local surf shop or online but the big ones will def be at B&N.

I haven’t heard of any Surfing Newspapers but I’m sure there out there someone. If you find any good ones definitely drop me a comment or a line so that I can include them. I will def keep my eyes peeled for any new developments on this.

More info on everything available on the market along with personal reviews can be found on the following sites for surfing magazines and surfing books. Enjoy and Stay Stoked.
