Surfing LessonsSurfing Lessons are well worth your money if you’re looking to learn or boost your surfing. Everyone has to start somewhere and there is no shame in getting a surf lesson if you need it. When I first started a few of my friends showed me the ropes and it’s the same for almost every surfer you’ll see out in the water. There are a lot of different surfing companies out there that offer surf lessons. Most likely your surf shop even does. You want to make sure that you get a really experienced surfing instructor that is willing to put in the time and effort to help you out. If they have a lifeguarding background that always helps to in case of an emergency.
As a beginner you need to be very cautious when you get out in the water because no one hates it more than having some kook beginner slam their board into them or their board. We’ve all been there but it’s not a fun situation. I’ve even had a guy lift his board over his head like he was about to bash my face in when he dropped in on me. Kooks. You can also consider joining a surf school or group lesson. These are great ways to make friends, lower the cost, and have a blast while you learn in a group. You can share each other’s pains, celebrations and lessons. There are also now surfing lessons for intermediate to advanced surfers but you need to make sure that if this is the route that you take that the person you are learning from has a style and skill set you are looking to emulate. Some people will offer advanced surf lessons and not tell you that they are a longboard or shortboard specialist and then you get there with your 6’0” and there on a 10’ plank and you’re out $100 for nothing.
